College Knowledge for Parents is a half day event that allows 8th grade parents and families to explore next steps for the college going process. Parents from across Tucson are invited to come on campus and receive presentations from community members, university professionals, and local school members. This year College Knowledge for Parents took place at the Integrated Learning Center at the University of Arizona on April 1, 2017. If you want more information and a schedule of this years event please see the image below.
This year parents expressed such an admiration to our staff and our office and really appreciated the work done. Student presenters from the UA, Pima, and local high schools provided an opportunity for students to get different perspectives on "college-going culture" and "college success" which allowed them to feel validated in the struggle of their own experience. Organizations provided information on a variety of aspects that impact academic success -- immigration status, cultural identity, differently-able issues -- which provided families with connections and opportunities. Families left our program with a sense of support for themselves and their students, and more importantly felt equipped to support their students individual situation and prospects.
